What Steersman Dynamic BOMs for Odoo enable

Define variables for product attributes and attribute values, allowing attribute values to be set as either text or numbers.

Define BOM components via simple rules using attributes and attribute value codes as variables, including multiple attributes/values in a single rule. A component can be:

• Product variant – a specific product defined as a component
• Product template – a multi-variant product, where attribute requirements of the parent are passed to a component
• Another dynamic BOM – component inherits the attribute requirements from the parent

The quantity requested for the component can be a number or a formula, using attribute value variables as formula inputs if they are set to decimals or integers.

Changes to dynamic BOM rules archive any BOMs generated with previous rules and will generate new ones once the products are requested. New BOMs will be generated for them and used on future manufacturing orders.

Example scenario using Steersman Dynamic BOMs in Odoo

Making a fire hose assembly in two steps: assembly of the nozzle, assembly of the hose with the nozzle, and the hydrant clamp.

• Product sold is the entire fire hose assembly, with the following attributes and options (432 variants possible):
  • Length: 50 ft, 60 ft,…, 190 ft, 200 ft
  • Nozzle: Basic, Multi-setting, Easy-flow
  • Hydrant clamp: Regular, Stainless, Titanium
  • Pressure rating: 120 psi, 200 psi, 300 psi
• Nozzle component has the following attributes and options (one product with nine variants):
  • Nozzle: Basic, Multi-setting, Easy-flow
  • Pressure rating: 120 psi, 200 psi, 300 psi
• Hose comes in three pressure ratings and is stored in rolls, measured by foot – three separate products
• Hydrant clamps are just Regular, Stainless, or Titanium – one product with three variants

Dynamic BOM for the hose assembly to accommodate all 432 variations possible will be:

  • Condition: Pressure=120
  • Component (variant): 120 psi hose
  • Quantity = Length (ft)
• Line 2
  • Condition: Pressure=200
  • Component (variant): 200 psi hose
  • Quantity = Length (ft)
• Line 3

The dynamic BOM for the nozzle will specify components based on the chosen nozzle and the required pressure rating. Some components may be shared across all possible variations, while others may be specific to certain combinations or shared across multiple combinations.
