An EDI 856 is an Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN). It is used to send and receive information regarding upcoming shipments and deliveries. The EDI 856 outbound integration offered by Steersman enables businesses using Odoo to generate and send Advanced Shipping Notices (ASNs) efficiently to buyers.

How Steersman’s EDI 856 Outbound Integration Works

1. ASN Generation in Odoo

   • Steersman’s integration automatically generates an ASN from shipment data within Odoo when a delivery order is validated in the system.

2. Validation and Formatting

   • The integration validates shipment data in Odoo to ensure it meets the customer’s requirements. It then sends the information to our EDI VAN, Kleinschmidt, who converts this data into a standardized EDI 856 format.

3. Automation of Document Transmission

   • Once the delivery order is validated, the EDI 856 document is sent automatically to the trading partner’s system via an EDI gateway. The system also supports acknowledgments, ensuring smooth communication with partners.

• Tracking information, including estimated delivery date, tracking number, carrier, and service level, from shipping carriers is synced into the EDI 856 for shipments created using Odoo’s delivery methods, such as EasyPost.
