Dropship Delivery Notification Emails for Customers

Steersman has introduced a new feature that allows Odoo to automatically send a delivery confirmation email to the customer (not the vendor) when a dropship order is fulfilled. This email includes a correctly formatted delivery slip that shows customer information, not vendor details.
By default, Odoo treats dropship operations as incoming receipts from the vendor, meaning that delivery records are tied to the vendor. This results in email notifications and packing slips being sent to or referencing the vendor, rather than the customer. This new functionality corrects that behavior and delivers the necessary information to the customer.
Key Features
- Email sent to the customer, not the vendor
- Delivery slip PDF shows the customer’s address and SO#, not vendor details and PO#
- Works with both automatic and manual dropship workflows
- Displays tracking info if added to the delivery
- Respects opt-out settings for customers who don’t want delivery confirmations
- Adds the customer contact as a follower of the transfer record
How to Enable It
- Go to: Inventory > Settings > Shipping Section
- Enable the checkbox: “Dropship Email Confirmation”
- Optionally choose a custom template under “Dropship Email Template”
How It Works
- Create a Sales Order using the Dropship route
- Confirm the SO and the linked Purchase Order
- Validate the resulting dropship delivery
- The system automatically sends an email to the customer with:
- A delivery slip showing the customer’s address
- Any tracking info added to the picking
- Customized email template if configured
This also works for manually created POs using the Dropship route.
