Odoo CPQ for advanced sales processes

Steersman provides a set of modules that combine into a powerful Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) functionality for Odoo, intended for companies that sell configurable products to order, including those with multi-level manufacturing processes.

Our Odoo CPQ technology supports online orders and orders placed by sales agents, with enhanced capabilities for configuring product options. It automatically hides and pre-selects attribute values based on the values selected for other attributes, considering their compatibility.

The sales agent configurator screen is similar to the one used by Odoo’s built-in configurator, with a few additional features. The customer-facing website configurator also includes additional features, such as images, tooltips, and extra functionality that allows for hiding or showing entire attributes based on attribute values selected elsewhere.

Option 1. Users shop configurable products

Customers can shop with our configurable product builder.

This option is visually appealing. Attributes can have graphics, and your product image can update based on the selected attributes. The price will also be updated in real time based on the customers’ choices. Customers can purchase the product immediately.

Option 2. Users select options and request a quote

Customers can select options and request a quote, allowing you to review with the customer.

While this option does not show dynamic pricing, you can provide the customer with more product information. Supply your customers with exact options, offering clarity so your customers feel comfortable moving forward with requesting a quote for a specific product.

How the CPQ compiles the product components

Steersman generates bills of materials (BOMs) via our dynamic BOM generator application for Odoo - allowing configuration of components and their quantities based on attribute values (or combinations of values) selected on the product. In one example of our setup, a live customer dynamically generates over 200,000 unique BOMs for a highly configurable product by applying approximately 200 dynamic BOM rules across three levels of their assembly process. And if the assembly components need to change, all a user needs to do is add or update a few rules affecting these components to propagate the change to all the BOMs it affects going forward.

Out of the dynamic BOM, Odoo generates normal Odoo BOMs on demand, and if the dynamic BOM changes, Odoo will know to regenerate BOMs for future product manufacturing needs.

Automatic price generation in Configure-Price-Quote process

On top of the dynamic BOM configuration, our advanced pricing engine for Odoo can dynamically calculate prices for all the potential variations of a product, calculating their accounting costs or current vendor prices and laying on top of that any markups, upcharges, or other types of fees to arrive at sale prices for all the products.

The result is a concise price quote for a product, with its attributes and attribute values specified and price provided. And if the order is confirmed, Odoo can create the whole chain of unique BOMs for manufacturing orders for that product and its numerous sub-assemblies (and sub-sub-assemblies).

Steersman’s CPQ website configurator view options

Steersman provides two general layouts for the website configurator for our CPQ for Odoo.

Quick view configurator for immediate orders

The simple, quick-order CPQ view enables customers to select options and complete their purchase quickly. It works well for products where customers should be able to easily understand the options and selections. Once the customer selects the options and adds the product to their cart, it appears as a quote in Odoo. If the customer decides to proceed with checkout, the order becomes a confirmed Sale Order in Odoo, ready for production and shipping.

Website configurator view for complex products

An alternative view is available for more complicated products, where options may be hard to understand for some customers. This view can provide more information for each option a customer can select, along with images for specific attribute variants. Customers are not intended to immediately see the price of the configuration they are trying to pick; a salesperson receives their selection specs and the system-calculated price, allowing for a manual review before sending a quote to the client.
