Mastering Parts & Model Compatibility in Steersman Odoo ERP

Quickly help your ecommerce customers find parts compatible with their specific equipment using Steersman’s Odoo Compatibility Tags. If your business sells replacement parts for equipment made by your company or other manufacturers, this feature allows you to create the equipment’s brands/models and assign parts to them to define their compatibility.
Why Compatibility Tags are essential
Compatibility Tags ensure a smooth shopping experience for your ecommerce customers.
- Allow customers to find items independently without calling customer support and occupying those resources.
- Purchasing the correct item the first time will ensure customer satisfaction and will not require the resources of returning and exchanging products.
- Compete with name brands and other manufacturers with strong SEO.
Features Include:
- Tag a product as compatible with multiple brands/models.
- Compatibility tags support the “Brand > Model” compatibility standard. When the user selects “brand,” they will see a list of models for that brand. If the user selects “model,” they will see the list of products compatible with that model.
- Assign Compatibility Tags to products directly on the product page or on a tag.
Configuration:
The first step in configuring compatibility tags is to determine how your customers search for items. As mentioned earlier, this is usually the Model and Brand. You will include all the brands and models for which your parts are compatible.
- In the Steersman PIM module, select Taxonomy, then Compatibility Tags
- Create a new Compatibility Tag bucket.
- Add a “Tag Bucket Name”, then select “Add a line” to add the values
- Continue adding Compatibility Tag buckets and values until complete.
- Once tags are entered, you can edit individual tags, entering direct and implied relationships amongst tags.
- Direct Implies relationships create a one-to-one relationship between two tags.
- Implied By allows you to create a parent-child relationship between tags.
Assign Compatibility Tags
Assigning products to Compatibility Tags can be done in two ways.
- Navigate to PIM/Taxonomy/Compatibility Tags
- Select the Compatibility Tag bucket for the tag you want to assign.
- Select the Compatibility Tag you want to assign.
- Go to the Products tab and select “Add a line.”
- Search for and select the product you want to assign and select “Save.”
Or
- Navigate to the product. PIM/Products/Products.
- Select the product.
- Select the Attributes tab.
- Under “Compatibility Tags”, select “Add a line.”
- Search for and select the tag or tags you want to apply, and save your product.
Tips and Tricks:
-
Before you assign all Compatibility Tags, test to ensure the filters are working and visible as expected. It is always best to test on a sandbox website.
-
The order in which tag buckets are shown on the website can be configured by setting the order of the buckets from PIM/Taxonomy/Compatibility Tags.
Once Compatibility Tags are set up to your liking, users will be able to filter through compatible parts, models, and brands on the website. SEO titles are also automatically created when Compatibility Tags are selected on category pages.
A table showing what products are compatible with the replacement part will appear at the bottom of the website’s product listing.
- Compatibility Tags must be managed and updated. Bad data can cause customer disappointment when the wrong part is fulfilled. Ensure that you are keeping the data up to date. Changes to model compatibility can often occur for newer items, where a part is updated, making it incompatible with specific models. Additionally, new part compatibility is frequently updated when issues arise for specific models.
- Compatibility Tags create filters on the website. Therefore, ensure that your filters are not overloaded. If your catalog, brand list, or model list is more than 10-15 tags, the filters on the site can become challenging to navigate. Placing refining filters at the top of the list can help customers locate their parts more quickly.
