The Challenges – Before Implementing Odoo

Using multiple applications

TF used multiple applications, which was a headache to manage. They used QuickBooks for accounting, Excel for production planning, and ShipStation for customer deliveries.

Innefective applications

TF manages bulk productions that pass through several stages and have various unique operations for their food production. Before working with Steersman, their production planning was done using Excel to gather data on order history and their current production capacity.

The maintenance team could only track when the next scheduled maintenance was due. The team needed a way to track downtime, repair costs, replacement parts, and schedule recurring maintenance checks on equipment.

The Solution – Streamlining with Odoo

Steersman’s Odoo implementation replaced QuickBooks, Excel, ShipStation, and multiple other apps. TF uses Odoo’s master production scheduler for production forecasting. They can also track production expiration dates and raise alerts for the inventory team.

Steersman also custom-built functionality for forward traceability reports, which was created to track product lot consumption throughout a multi-level production process and customer deliveries/returns. We also improved internal and customer-facing documents to correctly display lot and serial numbers.

The Results

With Steersman’s Odoo, TF is able to manage its product inventory by lots, track expiration dates, and plan and schedule production for order fulfillment and stock replenishments. They receive forward and backward traceability of their products by lot and serial numbers. They now also receive automated customer shipment notifications.

Some of the custom modules TF uses include:

• EasyPost shipping – Rate shop, estimate, and ship parcels right from Odoo
• Customer Credit Limits – Manage customer credit limits and blocks
• Quality Director – Restrict permissions only to allow designated personnel to have the ability to move products in and out of quality hold locations in the warehouse
• Lot Consumption Report – Forward traceability of a lot/serial number providing the starting product quantity of the specified lot during a specific date range and report of manufacturing orders that consumed the initial lot/serial number and any subsequent lots/serial numbers that were produced and consumed by another manufacturing order during the multi-level manufacturing process
• Lot Shipment Traceability – Forward traceability of a raw product lot/serial number, reporting back its transformed finished product lot/serial number’s customer shipments and returns
• Shipping workstations – Define printers for documents and labels to print from Odoo directly to office printers
